SPF, which is an acronym for Sender Policy Framework, is an email security system, that is is intended to confirm whether an e-mail message was sent by a licensed server. Using SPF protection for a given domain will stop the forging of email addresses made with the domain. In simple words: activating this feature for a domain makes a special record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which contains the IP of the servers which are permitted to send e-mails from mailboxes under the domain. As soon as this record propagates worldwide, it exists on all of the DNS servers that route the Internet traffic. When a new e-mail message is sent, the first DNS server it uses tests if it originates from an approved server. When it does, it's sent to the destination address, however when it doesn't come from a server part of the SPF record for the particular domain, it's rejected. Thus nobody will be able to mask an email address then make it look as if you're sending spam. This approach is also known as email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Shared Hosting

When you host your domain names in a shared hosting account on our end and we handle the email addresses for them, you are able to activate SPF protection for any of them with a few clicks in your Hepsia Control Panel. The service is accessible in a section of its own where you are able to see which domains are already protected. For those that are not, you'll be able to enable the SPF protection option and manage various things during the process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are permitted to send messages from your e-mail addresses, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the servers, and even to create a rule that messages can be sent only if your domain names include our MX records. The last mentioned option is the most secure one, and it can be used in the event that we manage the emails for your domains and you're not using some other email service provider. The newly created records will propagate within a day and nobody will be able to forge the FROM field in an email with your e-mail addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia website hosting Control Panel, which comes as standard with our Linux semi-dedicated hosting, provides you with an incredibly intuitive interface to enable the SPF security service for each domain name that you host within your new account. Just a few clicks in the Emails section of Hepsia will be enough for that and you'll only have to type in the hostname and the IP address of the mail server that will be allowed to send messages from your e-mails. If the email messages are managed by us and not by some other supplier, you will be able to increase the security level even more and take advantage of an option for all the outgoing e-mail messages to be sent only if your domain names use our MX records. This option provides you with better control and it'll eliminate any possibility of anybody forging your email addresses with the purpose of spamming and / or scamming people. It's not applicable when just your website is on our hi-tech cloud hosting platform, while your email addresses are handled by some other service provider. If you are not sure what features to choose, our tech support crew will help you 24/7.
